Hundreds of thousands of deer hunters are getting ready for one of the largest annual traditions in the state of Wisconsin…Opening Weekend of Deer Season that starts Saturday. The Packers, Badgers and Brewers season openers are big deals, but do not compare in the magnitude to deer season with the number of people involved and its impact on the state economy. Weather has little affect on the Brewers with the retractable roof and the only concerns for the Packers and Badgers are if it will be hot and will there be thunderstorms. On the other hand, deer season can experience any kind of weather from sunny and mild or very cold, to heavy rain or snow. The weather really depends on where you set up deer camp. The average high temperature in the southern third of the state is about 43 degrees and that area rarely has snow on the ground. Central Wisconsin has an average high in the mid to upper 30s and snow is possible, but the best chance of snow on the ground is north of Wausau with highs usually in the upper 20s. The past few opening weekends have been near normal with drizzle and light rain mixing in with a few snowflakes, but no big storms. This week looks chilly with highs in the 30s, but it looks quiet so not expecting snow on the ground by Saturday.
