After a chilly night in southeast Wisconsin with frosty temperatures warmer air heads this way and will slowly warm the state through next week. High temperatures in Milwaukee will reach the low-sixties on Saturday and there will be plenty of sunshine. During the Brewer’s game temperatures will drop through the fifties while the same scenario is also the forecast conditions for the Wisconsin Badger game in Madison Saturday evening.
After this morning’s frosty conditions, you are probably wondering if this is early for frost in southeast Wisconsin. The average date for frost in Milwaukee using airport historical data is October 20th, although inland areas can be as much as a week or two earlier. The earliest freeze on record for the Milwaukee area is September 20th set in 1956 when the low temperature dropped to 30 degrees. There have been a few occurrences of temperatures at or below freezing in Milwaukee during late September with most of the last week having record daily minimums below freezing. Every record daily low temperature during the month of October is at or below freezing in Milwaukee.
The latest dates for the first freeze in autumn in Milwaukee are November 24th in 1931 and November 23rd in 1902. The growing season in 1902 was a lengthy 221 days, the second longest on record.
