Another great day of weather for southeast Wisconsin as a large high pressure system directs dry air into Wisconsin. There will be a cold front passing through the state today but with a very dry atmosphere there shouldn’t be any precipitation across the state. The mild conditions with high temperatures in the seventies and cool temperatures at night will remain right through the coming weekend.
Hurricane Ike is gone and folks along the Gulf Coast of Texas are cleaning up after that disastrous hurricane landfall. Kyle is the next name on the hurricane list for this year followed by Laura and Marco. At this writing there are no new tropical storms expected in the next two days. Through this date there have been ten named tropical weather systems in the Atlantic Ocean Basin. Five of those were tropical storms and five developed into hurricanes. Three of the five hurricanes made it to major category which is a category three or larger, and those were Hurricane Bertha, Hurricane Gustav and Hurricane Ike.
The average for a hurricane season in the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea is 11 named storms with six reaching hurricane strength and three reaching major hurricane. The forecast issued before the season began was for major activity with sixteen named storms and nine of those reaching hurricane strength.
