John Malan

Generally at this time of the year in southern Wisconsin we are talking about the beginning of real autumn-like weather with high temperatures in the fifties and sixties and more cloudiness. The current pattern is just the opposite with high temperatures in the seventies and eighties for the past six days, and the warm spell should continue through Saturday. Look for high temperatures near eighty degrees away from Lake Michigan in the Milwaukee area through Saturday.

The wet weather pattern of August and September in recent decades has continued during this month in Milwaukee. During the past twenty-five years August has been much wetter in general and September has followed. On this date in 2005 moisture moving north from the active tropics caused period of showers and thunderstorms that dropped over two inches of rain in Milwaukee and up to six inches in surrounding suburbs. On September 27th just last year a series of severe thunderstorms developed a small tornado in Racine County that caused minor damage around 3:50 in the afternoon.

So far this month is following this trend and already above average for precipitation with just over four inches of rain for the month and a few more opportunities for more rain before the month culminates on Tuesday.
