Weather Wisdom - Monday April 14th, 2008

Brian Gotter

What a great weekend. After a high of 64 last Saturday, this past Saturday was in the 30s with a gusty north wind and scattered snow showers. Our highs this weekend were close to the average low of 36 for this time of year. The average high is 53.

After all the rain we had last week, the grass is starting to green up and spring flowers are beginning to bloom, but we need a break from the rain to let the water levels drop. On Thursday, Milwaukee received 1.66” of rain, a record for that date. We have said this a few times this spring, but if we would have been just a few degrees colder, it could have been up to 18” of snow. Highs on Thursday were in the mid 30s with winds gusting to 45mph.

We have received above normal precipitation since the beginning of the year and that trend has continued into April. Milwaukee is already more than 1.5” above normal for the month and we are only half way through the month.

We need some nice spring weather and it looks like this week will be dry and mild. The big storms stay to our south and southerly winds help us get back into the 50s and the 60s are even possible by the end of the week. Many people may be calling in sick.
