We are officially into the spring season in southeast Wisconsin after a winter of heavy snowfall in an area from Madison to Milwaukee, Fond du Lac to Kenosha. Many locations have already recorded over one hundred inches for the season like Kenosha, Grafton, and Madison. Milwaukee is at 98.9 inchers of seasonal snow and needs just over an inch to get into the one hundred inch club. Milwaukee has achieved a one hundred plus snow season only once, with 109.8 inches set during the winter season of 1885-86.
While I have heard plenty of comment s about how sick and tired most folks are of the relentless snowfalls, people in the Upper Peninsula in Michigan have received greater snow totals but are complaining that they haven’t had enough this season. Marquette is currently at 156 inches for the season, but they are actually a foot below average.
Since April begins on Tuesday, is there a chance we can make it to the seasonal record, with eleven more inches needed to break the record in Milwaukee? A look at the records indicates that the next two weeks are critical. Most major Milwaukee snowfalls in April have occurred before the mid-way point, like the 15 inches of snow that fell on the 8-12th back in 1973 or the ten inches on April 2nd in 1975.
