Storm Clouds Cast Shadow On Summerfest

By Katie DeLong

MILWAUKEE – Day 7 of the Big Gig is well underway, but ominous storm clouds have been casting a shadow on the Summerfest grounds throughout the day. It was another damp day on the Summerfest grounds Wednesday, but it appears a lot of the folks were ready. Like clockwork, the gates and the clouds opened up at the same time. A wet Wednesday that sent Summerfest fans fleeing for cover or unleashing umbrellas large and small. “I was expecting it to be sunny so we could go on the Sky Rockets thing, but I think it might pass over,” Emily Mallas said. Rain or shine, a Big Gig day was the plan and ponchos the armor to shield mother and child together. “They were selling ponchos two for $5. I’m like, here’s $5, grabbed my daughter, threw her under one, but managed to be alright, managed to get soaked, but we’re okay right now,” Jennifer Streff said. As high winds whipped the area, workers acted fast to protect the property and themselves. “Just another Summerfest storm got to tighten up the sand bags, make sure the tent’s ready to go, make sure it doesn’t blow away, but that thing’s not going anywhere,” Worker Ryan Murray said.
