Skyglider A Popular Summerfest Staple

By Katie DeLong

MILWAUEKE - It's a quarter mile long ride above Summerfest. From the Skyglider, you can see everything: all the stages, all the booths, all the excitement rain or shine. "Rainy day, couple thousands, but we'll get up to 10-12 thousand riders, on a real busy Saturday or Sunday,” Skyglider operator Scott Howard said. You can buy a ticket and ride one way, or you can do the giant loop. Both are popular. "It varies; we do one ways and round trip. We do more one ways than round trip but people like to do both. We'll see the same people on here every day. They'll go 3-4-5 times in a day,” Howard said. Riders usually just sit there and take in the view, but there are some folks who can't sit still. "We'll have our occasional guys who are too intoxicated, they'll bounce around. We tell them not to do that, but, usually most people are pretty good,” Howard said. So if you're looking for a little something fun to do at Summerfest, this is a good option. “To me it's the height. You get to see everything. You get to see the lakefront and you can actually see the bands all the way across. It's the greatest,” Skyglide rider Jeff Bouten said.
