Beating The Heat On Day One Of Summerfest

By Katie DeLong

MILWAUKEE - The heat is on at Summerfest. It was a sweaty afternoon Thursday for first day fans taking in the Big Gig. You could see all the sunglasses…the hats…and of course the cold drinks…great for a toast on the toasty first day. A generous boss gave some U.S. Bank staffers the afternoon off for fun in what may be too much sun. “This is the hottest day of the year I think. There’s no lake effect right now,” Mandy Lindner said. On the sweaty start to Summerfest, a brother offered his sister a friendly spray, while dad took in a different sort of refreshment. The Summerfest programs sure came in handy as makeshift fans. There were fans under the misting tent just minutes after the gates opened. “It feels good, getting a little hot, that’s all right,” Jim Dellarocca said. At the fountain, envious parents watched kids cool off. TODAY’S TMJ4’s Tom Murray: “What are you doing to beat the heat?” “Drinking a lot of fluids and ice cream,” one parent said.
