Finding Love At Summerfest
Carole Meekins
Katie DeLong
MILWAUKEE – We all know about the thrills of Summerfest, but for some, Summerfest is more than a giant concert.
In Positively Milwaukee, how the Big Gig helped one local couple find love.
Summerfest: a place to discover music, a good time and love.
TODAY’S TMJ4’s Carole Meekins: “Summerfest means more to you than it does to most people. Why is that?”
“Well because when I first met Mike, he really loved going to Summerfest, but he didn’t have anyone to accompany him, so he asked if I would be interested, and we started dating, and as a result, we’ve been coming down here every day for 14 years. This is our 15th year,” Nancy Anne Sachs said.
Sachs and Michael Retzer say their union started with the Classifieds.
Carole Meekins: “Now you said that he actually put an ad in the paper and you answered it?”
“Yes I did. The Milwaukee Journal, and as we talked on the phone, we found out we had a lot in common, including Summerfest, and now we’ve been together and now we’re engaged,” Sachs said.
“She’s a very warm and caring person, and there’s nothing fake about her,” Retzer said.
Carole Meekins: “Mike, did you ever expect to find the love of your life after you placed that ad?”
“Well I was hoping,” Retzer said with a laugh.
Carole Meekins: “You guys are going to be down here at Summerfest every day.”
“Yes,” Retzer said.
From the bands, to the crowds, to the good times, these two hope to add on to their Summerfest memories for years to come.
“Just many more years together,” Sachs said.
Carole Meekins: “So you’re the Summerfest love couple.”
“Yes, we are,” Sachs said.
