World Cup Soccer Organizers Consider Lambeau
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- The organization that governs World Cup soccer is exploring the idea of holding an exhibition match at Lambeau Field.
The match would be in 2018 or 2022 if the U.S. is selected as the host.
The field isn't wide enough to hold a regulation game, which must be played on a surface about 75 yards wide. A feasibility study suggests that even if the field at Lambeau were extended to cover the concrete apron around the grass, it would only be about 67 yards wide.
But an exhibition game is a possibility.
The Green Bay Packers have until April 17 to respond to a letter gauging their interest in hosting a game.
Packers president Mark Murphy says football is obviously foremost at Lambeau, but he's interested in seeing whether other events could also be hosted.
