Former Brewer Branyan Signs with Seattle
SEATTLE (AP) -- Free agent first baseman Russell Branyan and the Seattle Mariners agreed Wednesday to a one-year contract.
The left-handed-hitting Branyan batted .250 with 12 homers and 20 RBIs in just 132 at-bats with Milwaukee last season.
He began the season at Triple-A and was brought up on May 24, then was sidelined from Aug. 10-Sept. 26 with a strained muscle in his right side and was left off the Brewers' postseason roster.
Branyan has 133 home runs in 11 major league seasons, including 24 in 2002 and 18 in 2006. He can also play third base, and the Mariners hope the 32-year-old will fill their need for a left-handed power hitter.
