MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Mequon Homestead won the state high school girls' soccer tournament for Division 1 Saturday, after defeating De Pere 3-2 in double overtime.
The Homestead Highlanders took a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute of the first half on a penalty kick by Ally Miller.
De Pere midfielder/forward Shannon Becker tied the match just over 1 minute later on a 20-yard shot to the right edge of the goal.
The Highlanders scored again early in the second half on a goal by Kendall White off a cross from Dana Vilmetti at the 51:10 mark, but the Redbirds came right back 10 minutes later to tie the score on a goal from Bri Kuss off a deflection on a direct kick.
Homestead's Andrea Peiffer broke the tie with 2:59 remaining in the second overtime, scoring on a header in front of the Redbirds' goal off a corner kick from Anna Strehlow.
It was Homestead's third state title and first since 1995.
In Division 3, St. Mary Central girls won 3-1 over Racine St. Catherine's. Melissa Michalkiewicz scored two goals and Rachel Brown added another to help lead the St. Mary Central.
