WIAA Girls Soccer ResultsMILWAUKEE (AP) --Mia Uzelac usually averages about 25 minutes per game for Catholic Memorial's girls' soccer team. On Friday, in the biggest game of her life, she made the most of her limited time. Uzelac scored in the 69th minute, giving Catholic Memorial a 1-0 victory over Green Bay Notre Dame in the WIAA Division 2 state semifinals at Uihlein Soccer Park. "I am really happy and so excited," Uzelac said afterward. "I still can't believe it." Her goal allowed top-ranked Catholic Memorial (22-2-1) to advance to Saturday's state title game for the fourth straight year. Catholic Memorial will face Madison Edgewood, which beat Ashland 3-0. In Division 1 play, Waukesha West advanced to the championship game by topping Madison Memorial on Friday. The teams were tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation but Waukesha West (19-3-4) won a shootout 5-4. Waukesha West will play Divine Savior Holy Angels, who defeated Brookfield Central 4-2 in a shootout in the title game. Kettle Moraine Lutheran and St. Mary Central were winners in the Division 3 semifinals and will meet Saturday morning for the title. Kettle Moraine (17-7) advanced by beating Winnebago Lutheran 2-1, behind two goals from Rachel Graff. St. Mary (26-0-1) overcame a 3-1 deficit against Lake Mills to win 4-3, remaining undefeated on the year. Catholic Memorial coach John Burke started the second half with a three-forward attack. But when the Tritons began controlling the midfield, he reconsidered. "I think they were looking past us a little bit," Notre Dame coach Bob Rickards said. "I think we surprised them a little bit." Even after Uzelac's goal, Catholic Memorial wasn't safe. Notre Dame's Rachel Demerath had an open look from 10 yards out at 78 minutes, but her shot sailed a foot over the crossbar. Edgewood cruised to its victory over Ashland, getting goals from freshman forward Devon Richards, senior defender Beth Schramka and sophomore forward Leah Finger. Ashland was making its first-ever state appearance. The Oredockers entered with impressive statistics, outscoring their opponents 143-3. Ashland also had three players score at least 25 goals, allowed just 0.13 goals per game and produced a whopping 23 shutouts. "The first time here, I just think we had a lot of girls who were really nervous," Ashland coach Anne Whiting said. "If we played here again, maybe it would be a different story." Second-ranked Edgewood (18-4-3) will play in the state title game for the second time in school history. The game will be a rematch of the 2006 title game, in which Catholic Memorial beat Edgewood 1-0. Shramka was a freshman on Edgewood's 2006 team. She said just playing in a title game is exciting, but she's hoping for a different result this year. "We'll just do our best and play like we have nothing to lose," she said. "I think as a team, we're still getting better, and hopefully we'll play our best game of the year (Saturday)." ------ Information from: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, http://www.jsonline.com (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press.
