MADISON - In Division 2, New Berlin Eisenhower trailed 2-0 in the seventh inning for the second time in three games and rallied to win in the ninth, 3-2 over Southern Door. Katie Potts' two-out two-run single in the seventh tied the game, before Megan Yanny won it with a two-out double in the top of the ninth for Eisenhower (23-1), which hadn't won a game in four previous trips to state. Southern Door (19-3) scored both of its runs in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Molly Swanson and a single by Courtney Wautier. Eisenhower heads into the final Saturday against Monroe (22-2), which beat Rice Lake 3-1 in the other semifinal. Renee Schuttler pitched a two-hitter for Monroe, which built a 3-0 lead before Brianna Myers hit an RBI double in the ninth for Rice Lake (16-9). Nadine Romag had three hits and four RBIs, and cousins Cassie and Larissa Lewan each had three hits and three RBIs as Thorp routed Burlington Catholic Central 17-1 in the Division 4 semifinals of the WIAA State Softball Tournament Friday. Thorp's offensive explosion set division records for runs, hits (16) and runs in an inning (nine in the first). Romag's four RBIs tied the record for all divisions. Catholic Central (19-4) scored its only run in the top of the first on a dropped fly ball, but that was about the only thing that went wrong for Thorp (21-4). The Cardinals, making their first trip to state, sent 14 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first and scored nine runs. They added six more in the second as the game ended after 4 1/2 innings because of the mercy rule. Lindy Bergman and Shauna Messing each added two hits and two RBIs for Thorp, which will face Chippewa Falls McDonell in Saturday's final. Ashley Meinen threw a two-hitter, struck out 14 and didn't walk a batter as McDonell (17-3) shut out Highland 2-0 in the second semifinal. McDonell scored both its runs in the top of the first. With one out, Leisha Brzozowski singled for the first of her three hits. Jessica Freagon followed with a single, and both scored when the catcher couldn't handle a throw from the shortstop. Laci Pustina was the hard-luck loser for Highland (18-5), allowing the two unearned runs and striking out 11. The tournament continued to be plagued by rain, with Friday's games starting more than an hour late. Thursday's Division 1 quarterfinals were delayed four hours and the semifinals didn't finish until after midnight. Championship games in all four divisions were scheduled for Saturday. Cathy Kaye hit the tournament's first home run in the first inning to lead defending champion Sevastopol to a 6-1 victory over previously unbeaten Oakfield in the Division 3 semifinals. Oakfield (24-1) had allowed only 11 runs all season coming into the state tournament. Brittany Jilot added a two-run single in the first and Lacey Weber had a two-run double in the fifth for Sevastopol (18-7), which won its eighth straight game and will face La Crosse Aquinas in the finals. Aquinas (18-6) edged Park Falls 3-2 in the other semifinal on an unearned run in the sixth inning. Abby Heilman led off with a walk, stole second, and scored on a two-out fielding error by the second baseman.
