MADISON - After momentarily falling behind, Wauwatosa East quickly regained control.

The Red Raiders outscored Eau Claire North 10-2 in the final 3 minutes of the third quarter and then scored the game's final nine points en route to a 50-38 victory Thursday in the Division 1 quarterfinals of the Wisconsin state boys basketball tournament.

Eric Williams sparked Tosa East (24-1) with 15 points. Brice Powell added 10 points for the Red Raiders, who won despite shooting only 40 percent (19-47).

"We didn't shoot well. That's what comes to mind, but we hit them when we needed to late," Tosa East coach Tim Arndorfer said. "Our guys picked up the intensity on defense and that changed the game quite a bit."

The Huskies (18-5) were led by Tyler Brown and 6-foot-11 sophomore Evan Anderson with 12 points each.

"The final score is no indication how tough the game was," Eau Claire North coach Patrick Hammond said.

The Red Raiders scored the game's first eight points, but Eau Claire North tied it at 12 and kept it close, trailing 20-18 at halftime.

It was 26-20 when the Huskies used an 8-0 run to lead by two in the third quarter. A 3-point play by DJ Cupertino restored the lead and it was never relinquished.

Still, the Huskies stayed within range, closing to 38-36 and were down by three with 90 seconds left, only to have the Red Raiders put it away in the last 90 seconds with the 9-0 run.

The rally was capped by dunks by Williams and reserve Relyea Speller.

"We finally got the lead and had a chance to get it to four, but it wasn't meant to be," Hammond said. "It was a tough way to end it.

"They'll be a tough team to beat."

Brown said, "They made a run at the end, but I was happy the way we played. We stayed with them."
