Ryan Sadowski got everything a rookie could ask for in his Major League debut. He pitched six shutout innings, collected his first career hit and won his first game as the San Francisco Giants (40-34) knocked off the Milwaukee Brewers 7-0 at Miller Park.

Sadowski (1-0) allowed no runs in six innings of work. He gave up just four hits--that would be all the hits the Brewers produced. He walked three and struck out two. There must be something about a rookie pitcher making his big league debut that renders the Brewers' bats almost helpless. The Brewers are now 0-4 in games started by a pitcher making his big league debut.

"We're hoping all the debuts are over with," Brewers manager Ken Macha said.

The only blight on Sadowski's debut came in the sixth inning when Ryan Braun lined an infield single off his right leg but Sadowski showed some toughness as he shook off the pain and finished the inning.

"He had pretty good command of all of his pitches," Braun described. "He didn't really get too many guys on base. He didn't have to pitch out of too many jams. He was pretty confident and threw the ball well."

Nate Schierholtz went 4-for-5 with a home run in the ninth, three singles, two runs and a RBI to lead a Giants offensive attack that produced 12 hits.

Most of those hits came off Brewers starter Jeff Suppan. He lasted 5.2-innings in which he gave up five runs and eight hits as Suppan (5-6) picked up his sixth loss of the year.

Suppan gave up three runs in the second in which the Giants batted around the order. He allowed another run in the fifth and then gave up a home run to Matt Downs in the sixth. It was Downs' first career long ball.

"It's just situations where I am trying to get a groundball double play and I really should just work on the quality of the pitch instead of thinking groundball double play," Suppan explained as to why he struggled.

The Giants got another run in the eighth thanks to Randy Winn's RBI single. Winn finished 2-for-4 with two singles, 2RBI and a walk.

Bobby Howry and Jonathan Sanchez combined to keep Sadowski's shutout intact over the final three innings. The only good news that came out of this game was that the Cardinals lost leaving the Brewers (40-35) still tied for first place in the division.

Mat Gamel batted leadoff for the first time in his Major League career. He went 0-for-2 with two walks...The Brewers are now 9-16 when they do not hit a home run...This was just the fifth game this season that Suppan gave up five or more runs...Brewers killer Pablo Sandoval--three home runs in the series--left the game in the sixth inning with a stomach illness...This was just the second game all season that the Brewers have been shutout...Up next for the Brewers is a three-game set with the New York Mets at Miller Park. Game one will have Braden Looper (5-4, 5.16 ERA) starting for the Brewers while Fernando Nieve (3-0, 1.31 ERA) starts for the Mets.
