Local SportsRaw Video: Rams Training Camp In MequonBy Katie DeLong
MEQUON - There’s another NFL team in town.
The St. Louis Rams are holding their training camp at Concordia University in Mequon.
They're rolling out the red carpet…or at least opening their new $22 million residence hall to the Rams with some major adjustments: beds combined to be bigger and 80 flat screen TVs.
But before we take offense and get defensive about this gridiron adversary taking up temporary residence, the St. Louis Rams arrival signals an impressive economic impact and more employment.
“Ice vending being delivered every day, bottled water being delivered every day, soda, Gatorade, just the food in our cafeteria, all those things are huge,” Kenneth Gaschk, Concordia University Enrollment Services VP said.
The Rams colors may not be green and gold, but it's a different green and gold area advocates are going to be focusing on.
“They’ll be staying in hotel rooms and going to restaurants and spending money at attractions in town so that’s immediate, but the reality is the more people we bring in here and the more ambassadors we have that say ‘Milwaukee, I can’t believe Milwaukee is this great,’” Dave Fantle of Visit Milwaukee said.
In fact, Visit Milwaukee has done everything it can spreading the Wisconsin gospel to Rams fans, offering them coupon books for Wisconsin businesses.
And lest you call Concordia officials turncoats with their Rams gear,
“The Rams are our second favorite team,” Al Prochnow, Concordia University Finance and Administration VP said.
TODAY’S TMJ4’s Scott Steele: “And you made that clear to them.”
“We certainly did,” Prochnow said.
The Rams will be in Mequon through the middle of August.
