TODAY'S TMJ4 has learned that Brett Favre has contacted Green Bay Packers' Coach Mike McCarthy and expressed he has an "itch" to play again.
TODAY'S TMJ4 wants to know what you think: would a Brett Favre comeback be good for the Packers?

Here are some of your responses:
Gene says: “With both Frave and Rogers the Packers could be division winner again. Need two top QB to be a contender in the NFL Central this year.”
Tim says: “It's been obvious for years that Ted Thompson wanted to put his own stamp on the team. This meant "his" quarterback, not Ron Wolfs. If Aaron Rodgers has a good season, Thompson's job is safe. If he gets hurt or fails, GOODBYE TED. Favre should be allowed back, but Ted won't allow it to happen.”
Ellen says: “I would be embarrassed for all the life-long loyal Packer Fans if Brett were to come back AND, I would have to burn all my SI magazines, books, etc. - I for one would lose respect for Brett if he decided to come back.”
Anonymous says: “This news is not good for the football team. They have been working on a new mindset with Rodgers at QB. Brett is wonderful but the Packers need to move on and so does Brett. Trading him to improve a weak spot on the team would be the best option.”
William says: “I hope that he does not come back. He is acting like a spoiled kid and wants it his way. If he comes back I am done with Packers GO BEARS.”
Scot says: “I think he should sit down, shut up and enjoy his millions instead of using the Packers as his own personal playground.”
Matt says: “I think it would be the best thing for the Packers this year. Rodgers will get hurt and be out within the first three games of the season. The Packers have it all there right now to go to and win the Super Bowl this year. I can tell you that they will not get there with Rodgers and will be under .500 this year. BRING THE IRON MAN MVP BACK FOR TWO MORE YEARS!!! Rodgers didn’t score any points around here with his last comments. He should remember that we pay his way!”
Linda says: “I think if the Packers put Brett on the active list and then trade him they are making a huge mistake, or if they release him. Aaron Rogers has nothing going for him as Brett still does. I felt the comment Rogers made that the fans better move on without Brett or "shut up" was very rude and definitely is not helping his cause. I will not watch a Packer game, it would be to embarrassing to see them lose week after week which is what is going to happen. Aaron Rogers is no Brett Favre and will never be. Brett has a contract and if the Packers are wise they will utilize him or I think they will lose a lot of fans. If it happens that Brett plays for another team THAT will be MY team to root for, certainly not the Packers!”
Grace says: “It would make a joke of all the accolades he received when he "retired"! So, no, I don't think it would be good for either him or the team.”
Joe says: “Would it be good if Favre returned? Of course! Yet I’m sure that everyone would have mixed feelings about it. I think everyone, including Packers fans, will be spilt into two main groups. The group that is extremely happy and excited that one of the greatest QBs in NFL history is returning to the game. And the other group insulting him for retiring at the end of the season, then only to return at the beginning of the next one. Not even out 6 months. I think a lot of people would argue that it was a publicity stunt or something. Though the real Packers fans know that he just always had the itch to play.”
Susan says: “A Favre comeback would be GREAT for the Packers, his fans, and the NFL. I truly hope he does return to Green Bay!”
Carol and Gordy say: “The BEST thing for the Packers is the return of their Star Quarterback, Brett Farve! How exciting to be able to watch #4 again this season. Goodbye Ted Thompson, Welcome Brett Farve!!!!”
Carol and Dewey say: “Personally, I would LOVE it--He has so much to offer and could
help the younger players with his knowledge of the game.”
Marie says: “I think Brett needs to stop teetering back and forth on retirement decisions. It's not fair to the Packers organization, the team or the fans. He made his decision to retire...now leave it at that. He and the Packers had a great season last year and maybe he shouldn't have jumped so fast to retire on that high, but he did and it's time to move on.”
Richard says: “If Brett came back to the Packers it would be the worst thing for the Packers and the fans.”
Jim says: “Brett retired for good reasons. He should stay retired.”
John says: “Get rid of Rodgers and bring Brett back! The Packers drafted two legitimate future NFL QB's. Being originally from Baton Rouge, I know how physically tough Flynn is. He fits the mode of a "Farve" quarterback!”
Mike says: “Yes sir I do think it would be great with the man playing in 2008 and 2009. The man has got all the tools that he has always had, plus the roster is fantastic for a great year and more. With the players that are there now, it should be a very interesting year. Brett knows what is there and if he can control himself everyone should have a great time. It's hard for me to believe that PACK FANS would want it any different but to have the best players on the field that there is on the roster. LETS GO PACK AND BRETT in 2008 and beyond.”
Kyle says: “I think it would be good for the fans, but probably not for the team. Plus, his 12.5 mil salary...doesn't effect the cap...possibly this was done on purpose?”
Tim says: “I do not think that Favre coming back is a good thing. This thing has been going for four years and seems to never want to die. Rodgers is the guy for now. Let him try and see how he does. All this does is put Green Bay in a very, very tough spot. On the one hand, how can you say no? But they have moved on. There can be no winner in any of this.”
Lisa says: “Ok, here is what I think. Do I love Brett, of course I do, who doesn't? Is he a great quarterback? Of course! But my opinion is this, he should decide once and for all and stick with his decision.”
Mardelle says: “I think it is just terrible that this kind of nonsense is even going on. It is not fair to the team, or Rodgers that this come back is even being mentioned. When a person announces a retirement, then that should be it. Over and done with! I will not even watch the Packers if Favre does this. Who does he think he is to play around with everyone else’s life? He thinks he is so much better than everyone else and that he is irreplaceable. Well, he can be replaced just like the rest of us. The bottom line is that this just isn't right for him to fool around, and it isn't right for the Packers to allow this.”
Jan says: “I loved watching Brett play. But he retired, he should stay retired, and we should all move on. I would hate to see him playing for another team.”
Barb says: “He retired its time to go on with his life.”
Gregory says: “You might as well bring back Bart Starr, Paul Hornung, Leroy Butler, and James Lofton. Get real, move on, he went out on top, now think of the future, stop living in the past.”
Jodi and Ryan say: “As much as we like Brett Favre and he has done a great job with the Packers it is time to let the team move on and give Aaron Rogers a shot. I think that he is ready and should be given the chance to play and Brett should enjoy retirement.”
Todd says: “Comeback? He's only been gone for 6 months but so has every other player in the NFL. If he wants to call this a comeback then sit out this season and return next season. Either way, this story sickens me. Yes, he is a talent but for crying out loud, stay retired out of respect for yourself, your organization and those that are slated to fill his shoes (Aaron Rogers). If Farve comes back, this will truly be one of the most self-centered and classless decisions in the history of professional sports. Then again, those who think Favre is some kind of do-good down to earth every man are terribly mistaken. He is an ego maniac who knows he is one of the most overrated QBs ever and I bet he can't sleep at night know that the second half of his career was a big disappointment. Go ahead and come back Brett, frigid weather awaits.”
Pete says: “7 years 12 months a year of dedication!! Most of us wouldn't even last a year with that kind of pressure in the NFL! The man gave us his all and we love him for it. His enthusiasm while playing made football that much more enjoyable, but the man needed a break!! He has a lot of football left in him and I hope he comes back and uses it all in Green Bay!! To see him high fiving and jumping on his teammates in another uniform would rip my and other Packer fans heart out!!”
Jake says: “I'm beside myself that anyone would not want Brett Favre to return to the Packers. For a lot of years he led the Green Bay Packers and if he wants to play I feel we owe him that. After all he is one of the best quarter backs in the NFL.”
Mike says: “Once again, Forrest Favre, decides he still has the itch to play football. Well, scratch that itch and go away. The merry go round needs to stop and Forrest, you need to get off. Jump on your John Deer tractor, cut the lawn, whatever, just go away.”
Amy says: “Enough is enough. Favre retired and that’s how it should stay. The Packers and their fans have adjusted to having Aaron Rodgers as the new quarterback and he is perfectly capable of getting the job done. We love Favre, but he made his choice. I vote no to a Favre comeback.”
Helain says: “I have never been a Packer fan. If Favre comes back, that would make me quit watching football all together. He is not God. Let Aaron Rogers have a chance. I believe that is the only reason Favre wants to come back, so Rogers can't play. He can't face the fact he is a has been. Let the new kid on the block have a chance.”
Mary Ellen says: “WAKE UP, BRETT. Scratch your itch and then get on with your retirement and enjoy looking through your front windshield. Don't soil your retirement!”
Allison says: “I think the Packers should move on, because Farve is retired, but if he really wants to come back he needs to make a decision and stick with it.”
Isabelle says: “I've been a Packers fan every since Ted Fritsch who lived next door in the small town of Spencer, WI made the Packers team under Curl Lambeau. I will be a fan of Brett's wherever he chooses to play, whether it is for the Pack or anyone else. I do hope it is a return to the Packers.”
Scott says: “Favre coming back after passing the torch would be a terrible move and completely unfair to Rodgers. Even Favre said himself that as it got closer to the season, he would have an itch to play again, but there is a difference between saying it and actually coming back. I love Favre as much as the next Packers fan, but it would be absolute chaos to see him play for anyone else if he were to. If he comes back, it would have to be as a backup to Rodgers in case Rodgers were to get hurt like he had been hinting at a few months ago.”
Sharon says: “I love Brett and his family. If he's got "the itch" I think he'd make an awesome quarter-back coach! What better coach than the best Quarter-back ever?!? He's got to think about the fact that he's not as young as he used to be (take that from a fellow over-40-something) and I would hope he can find satisfaction in coaching the up-and-coming quarter-backs. I think he'd be the best coach. :-)”
Derek says: “Brett Farve has called it quits. The simple reason is that he is on the cover of Madden 2009. This may sound insignificant, but there is a thing known as the "Madden Curse" which has been going on for ten years now.”
Anonymous says: “Favre should be on the show intervention with Marino, Elway, Aikman and Jim Kelly. Move on and don't risk injury to himself or a hall of fame career.”
Wakim says: “I think that it is unfair that Brett continues to do this to Aaron Rogers. I wish that he would kill all the come back talk and just let the Packers move on so that we can know for sure that we are doomed to many years with Aaron.”
Leonard says: “Hi, I'd LOVE TO SEE Brett Favre come back!!! He retired on my birthday and made it my worst bday ever!!! Come on back Brett for your #1 fan. Go Pack!!!”
Ron says: “Stay retired Favre. I can't believe the ego of Favre. First he cries and pours out his emotions about retiring. Now, he obviously misses the attention and wants to return with no feeling on how this decision would affect the Packers or Aaron Rogers. Stay retired you ego maniac!”
JoAnn says: “Brett Favre deserves to play as long as he wants to play. He has always stood by the fans and his team, giving everything he has to the Green Bay Packers. Now is the time for the fans to stand behind Brett's decision to come back. It would be heartbreaking for him to play anywhere else. Ted Thompson must understand that the fans will never accept a rejection of Brett Favre by the Packers organization. Ted is fairly new to the Packers organizations. Maybe he isn't aware of the love affair that has been going on for 17 years between Brett and his fans. As long as Brett is playing well, and he DEFINITELY IS, he needs to stay in Green Bay.”
Geno says: “I think just because he has the "ITCH" meaning (Itching Towards Championship Hourglass) that does not mean getting back on where you left off. There will be talks with Coach McCarthy and Ted Thompson along with Brett’s agent in what direction they are going. If they decide to go with him playing in Green Bay I honestly think there will be some friction among players like Aaron Rodgers who I personally think will get the Green & Gold in the playoffs. Secondly, if Favre does not play with Green Bay, he will be either in Tampa Bay with John Gruden or possibly talking with Chicago and /or Seattle, but wherever he goes the legend will continue to "get er done.”
Susan says: “Brett needs to stay in retirement. He's played these games for the last several years wanting to retire. He sobbed on TV during his press conference. The Packers don't need him for 1 year if that's his intention. He had the public believing that he was done and it was a good choice to retire while he still could and left without major injuries and a good season. Let someone else take him as a player. He's playing head games and needs to stay home and take care of his family. The public should be getting tired of hearing about Brett, I know I am.”
Mary says: “Sounds like Brett is missing the media attention more than playing football. After all, he merely suggests an "itch to come back" and it becomes the number one story on all broadcasts! At almost 40, he needs to save face and stay retired. Don't make us go thru the retire / don't retire circus again next year. And if he wants the attention he'll get from signing with another team, I say let him go. Remember how well that plan worked for Reggie White!”
Anonymous says: “Brett may be itching to play again, but it won't happen. Coach McCarthy may even want Favre back, but GM Ted Thompson won't take him back. He was glad to see him retire, so that he (Ted) could claim the team as his own instead of it being ‘Brett's team.’”
Anonymous says: “Is everyone forgetting what he said in his news conference? He said that he couldn't take all the preparation anymore. If he said that with knowing the Packers offense inside and out, how much time is he going to have to spend learning a new offense for another team! Talk about a commitment to time...I for one am getting tired of it! “
Diana says: “Stay on that tractor Brett!”
An old fan says: “I love it. Hope he goes with a team who will have more than one receiver and blockers to protect him and coaches who are not so by the book but can accept the best plays for him to win via his assessment of the situation he is in. Maybe Seattle with I think the best coach of Holmgren. Most of all I hope I will be able to see him play on TV.”
Jim says: “I don't think the Packers should take him back. If they do take him back it should be in a backup quarterback role. This is Rogers’ team and the Packers team for the future. Brett should only be used in a back up role.”
Denise says: “I think that Brett should stay retired. Don't get me wrong, I love the guy, but he needs to look at the full picture. Rogers needs to be able to start the season without worrying about whether he's going to lose his position. If Brett starts with a new team it just wouldn't be right either. We as fans love Brett, but he needs to let other teammates (Green Bay or otherwise) have their turn at something Brett has done and achieved.”
Kasey says: “If Brett wants to come back and play for the Packers again the Packers should gladly accept him back, if they don't it would be the biggest mistake in franchise history.”
Anonymous says: “To see Favre come back for 1 more year would make me the happiest person ever. If he goes to another team I will be really heartbroken.”
John says: “Yes! Bring him back, definitely!”
Corrine says: “No, he said his goodbyes, he said he didn't have 'it' anymore, he said he was 'tired.' Enough with the up and down; enough with the back and forth. He finally made a decision and he should stick to it. (We all knew he wouldn't be happy with that decision, but it was totally his decision (tearful as it was) and he should stand by it).”
Big time Brett Favre Fan says: “I think Brett has a lot more football to play, and it should be for the Packers. He's given so much of himself to this state and the entire Green Bay community. I say welcome him back with open arms.”
Evelyn says: “Yes. I think the Packers will have a better shot a winning a title with Favre's return. However, I feel it would be unfair to Aaron Rodgers.”
Judy says: “GOOD THING. Yes, yes, yes!”
Lori says: “Would love to hear he's coming back, but only to the Packers! Would not want to see him come back if it was for any other team but the Packers. That just wouldn't be right!”
Anonymous says: “Nothing could be better news than that the rumors are true, and that Brett is itching to come back. I have felt since the beginning that the decision seemed too soon, and too rushed, and premature. As is often the case- big decisions are best left for calmer times. I hope the rest he has received has been the catalyst for bringing him back to our team and to our hearts.”
Wyndy says: “I would Love for Brett to come back. I was and am a Brett Favre fan 1st, then a Packers fan, I anticipated that I would not be watching many Packers games this year, and would not be glued to the TV every Sunday afternoon without #4. If this rumor is in fact correct and Brett is interested in playing and the Packers are foolish enough not to welcome him back, and he chooses to play for another team, I do not have a problem buying a jersey of another color, I WILL follow him and have to "root" for another team. (I'm giddy with excitement @ this news!!!!!!) YEAH!!!!!”
Julie says: “We love Brett and would welcome him back – however - the Packers are investing their time in Aaron Rogers, so I don’t think we’ll see Brett as a Packer again. PLEASE, just NOT a Bear....”
James says: “Hmm, let me think. This might take a while…yeah it would be awesome for Brett to come back. He is the Icon of the league and of the packers. He definitely has the skill to still play. He has been the only reason I watch the packers. He is Brett Favre.”
Amy says: Come on back #4! My dream come true. No other team. You belong in Green Bay.”
Barb says: “If Farve wants to come back, he should be allowed to come back!!!”
Christopher says: “Personally I would love to see him back. Many other athletes have done the same, except I believe Brett is a little more ‘idolized,’ both as a person and as a quarterback. He has not been out of football long and I believe his decision was based on mental strain, not physical. GO BRETT.”
Jeanne says: “As much as I love Brett, I think the team needs to move on without him. It's time to give Aaron Rodgers his chance to prove himself as the leader of the Pack. But I sure would hate to see him play with another team. He should retire as a Packer!!”
Linda says: “Brett should stay retired. I will never forget that look on his face during the last game. He looked totally out of it. Too old to play in the cold.”
Christa says: “He is a gift to our state. If he wants to play, everybody should get together and make that happen!”
Christine says: “I knew Brett would do this. He just felt incredible pressure to perform, and now that he's had a break--mentally, physically and emotionally--I think he's ready to play again. If he does, I just hope he comes back to Green Bay. Anything else would be a slap in the face.”
Tracy says: “This is getting ridiculous, he can't stand being out of the limelight, I think we all need to move on and let Aaron Rodgers have his day. If I was Rodgers I would ask to be traded, I would refuse to have Favre hanging over me all year. He is making a mockery out of that team, time to grow up and realize your days came and went now.”
Asher says: “I believe that if Brett Favre came back to play for the Green Bay Packers, there will be renewed interest in Favre and the Packers. I would also expect to see more people attending football games at Lambeau Field. If Favre does come back to pay football, there would be many happy fans.”
Fay says: “I would welcome him back, no questions asked. Let’s face it, the team will not be the same without him. Let’s hope and pray that this will happen. Packer fans/Packer Nation would be so happy. He is the heart and soul of the team, always will be. My son just named his first born son after him. The remarksbBy Aaron Rogers were hard for us fans to hear. Never in 16 years did Brett Favre ever say harsh words to us fans. If this is true come back Brett Favre. We want you back under center for as long as you want. Please!”
Mike says: “NO, NO, NO! It would not be good for the Packers or Brett. Brett: You went out on top, as so few do. Stay on top. Don't do this to yourself and your fans. It's Aaron Rogers' time.”
Kaitlin says: “I think Brett's comeback would be GREAT! He has been in Green Bay a long time, and now that he is retired, I think he finally realizes how much he misses football, and Green Bay. If he does come back, I'm sure it will be his best year ever! Go Green Bay!”
Anonymous says: “Brett needs to make up his mind and stay out of town. If he can’t make up his mind how can he be trusted to make a split second decision on the field? He is doing nothing but hurting this team.”
Joann says: “No, a Favre comeback would not be good. The Packers are getting used to a new leader (Rodgers). Favre needs something else to occupy his time, McCarthy should offer him a coaching job. If that doesn't suit him, then he should find another city to play in. I know it would be hard to swallow, but it could not be overcome. Favre news is getting real old. He retired, we said our lengthy goodbyes, he needs to move on. I know it was real exciting playing for the Packers, but he needs to get over himself.”
Ruth says: “I think that he should come back!”
Andrew says: “I hope Brett comes back! I never thought that he would retire. He still has some playing time in him. Looking forward to see Aaron Rodgers but if Brett comes back that would be even better. Thumbs up to Brett!”
Kris says: “As much as I absolutely was crushed when he retired, I'm not sure how I would feel if he indeed returned. It doesn't seem fair to Aaron Rodgers, or the rest of the Packers, as they have been preparing this off-season to go on without him. Also, it would feel worse than when he retired if he ended up having a terrible year, or worse yet, a career-ending injury.”
Breanne says: “I think a Brett Favre comeback would be great! He is the best thing to ever happen to the Packers and Wisconsin, not to mention that the fans absolutely love him, win OR lose. And this time, we (the fans) can be assured it is his last season and go into it prepared, enjoying every play of every game this season. I only hope that he's not toying with our emotions again! Because I do not think I (and many other fans alike) could go through this torture again. Crossing my fingers for a return!”
Donna says: “I think it would be just wonderful. He shouldn’t have stepped down to begin with. He has a lot of playing time in front of him.”
Jason says: “The only person that would not be good for is Rodgers. He had an incredible team last year and with the exception of him all came back. It would be great to see what he could do with these players that have a little more time under there belts. Go Pack Go.”
Dan says: “While I love Brett and what he has done for the Packers, I think the Packers would be better off moving on and not entertaining a comeback. I cannot get past seeing how miserable Brett looked in the cold on the sideline during the NFC championship game.”
Wendy says: “I don't think we can call it a ‘comeback’ when he hasn't even missed a season yet, but I, for one, will ALWAYS welcome him back with open arms!”
Steve says: “It is time to move on, Brett had his glory days, but that time is gone. Let Rodgers play.”
Tressa says: “Of course it’s a good thing! The ONLY bad thing is that we’ll all have to go through his ‘retirement’ again and that wasn’t enjoyable at all!”
Brandon says: “I would be ecstatic to see Brett come back. It's clear to see that nobody loves the game more than he does. No one ever has, or ever will, be able to energize Packers fans like Favre does.”
Anonymous says: “I think that is the best idea I have heard my whole life. When you think of the Packers, you think Brett. Without Brett there is no Pack. No one is close to what Farve has accomplished, and if he still has the drive to play, then let him do what he is the greatest at.”
Vicky says: “Are you kidding? Brett Favre is the best quarterback possibly to ever play the game How could that NOT be good for the Packers? And if the Packers aren’t smart enough to realize that, then some other team will be and we will lose a legend to finish his career elsewhere. I hope that Thompson and McCarthy are smart enough to welcome Brett back as the starting Packer QB with open arms!”
Jennifer says: “I think this whole thing is absurd!!! It is all a publicity stunt to see how long he can stay in the spotlight. How long are we Packers fans to think that he is the only QB that exists? No one can deny his ability but come on, enough of the Favre watch already. It is time to move forward, or are the people of Wisconsin not able to do that?”
Tony says: “Watching Brett play has been like watching a kid open presents at Christmas! Yet I believe it is time to move on. Stop with the blaming of Ted T. He is doing a great job.”
Anonymous says: “Maybe Brett just ran into poison ivy on his land, that is why he has the itch.
I really don't know how I feel. Part of me thinks YES come back. Part of me thinks stay retired and healthy. Enjoy your family.”
Douglas says: “I have always been a Big Brett Favre fan, I will always be a Favre fan, and he still has some ball to play, and maybe a few more records to break! I only hope its ONLY with the PACK! I just can’t picture Brett playing with anybody else but the Packers! Come back Brett!”
Stefanie says: “I love Brett, but it is time to move on now.”
Steve says: “Brett's un-retire?? I think it would be good if Brett Favre could reinvent himself; say get into NFL broadcasting (he could boost network ratings and people would be very interested to hear the wily veteran speak his opinion on the game). On the other hand, if he truly has "the itch" to play again, how about being released from the Packers and getting picked up by another team needing his services. I think he needs to be fair to the Packers and Aaron Rodgers and stand by his commitment to step aside. If the Pack brings him back, there is no way they should pay him the kind of money he would have gotten if he didn't retire. Sorry Brett. I love watching you and the Pack, but I think the best thing for both of you is to move on with your future.”
Dave says: “Yes, it would be good. The team is solid for up-coming season or two. No disrespect to Rogers, but this is a business, Brett is the money maker. Ted should get his head out of his butt if Favre would like to come back.”
Lynn says: “YES, YES, YES!! We lost the greatest quarterback in history when Brett retired. I never understood why he would retire just as the Packers were becoming a Super Bowl contender again! Come back Brett!”
