President Lauds Fielder's Derby WinBy Jay SorgiMilwaukee's new Home Run Derby king received recognition from America's first baseball fan as part of a good-natured locker-room ribbing toward the player considered the best hitter in baseball today. President Barack Obama met up with Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder, the Home Run Derby champion, along with Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols during the All-Star game festivities. Mr. Obama chose to give a tongue-in-cheek cut to Pujols, who was starting the All-Star game on his home field of Busch Stadium in St. Louis. "Home Run Derby winner!" the President said as he saw Fielder, then turned to Pujols. "I'm just saying man, what happened? Hey Albert? This guy...in your home park? What's going on, man?" All three laughed about the exchange. Obama, wearing a Chicago White Sox jacket, threw out the first pitch to Pujols before the game, while Fielder hit a double for the National League in a 4-3 loss to the American League. |
