Wilmot Makes WIAA Baseball Semifinals
GRAND CHUTE, Wis. (AP) -- Wilmot pitcher Quincy Berg earned a complete game shutout as the Panthers beat Eau Claire North 4-0 in a WIAA Division 1 state baseball semifinal.
The sophomore lefty threw a two hitter to help Wilmot (24-5) advance to its first championship game since a Class B appearance in 1989. The Panthers take on Bay Port Thursday at 6 p.m.
Berg was dealing in his biggest outing of the season -- putting Wilmot on the doorstep of its first state title since 1970 -- after going 6-4 with a 3.14 ERA during the season. And he did it in seamless fashion by retiring the first 10 batters he faced.
Eau Claire North (20-5) is eliminated from its ninth state tournament appearance.
