Top 9th
2:42 p.m. 3 Out
Hoffman vs. Uggla
Last batter of the game? Pop-up, and Kendall has it easily. Brewers in 1st!
2:41 p.m. 2 Out
Hoffman vs. Baker
"Heeeeeeeee struck him out looking!"
2:39 p.m. 1 Out
Hoffman vs. Cantu
Three days in a row for Hoffman is a good sign. It means the Brewers are winning.
A high pop-up to Hall. At first it looked scary, but not so much.
Bottom 8th
2:34 p.m. 3 Out
Nunez vs. Gamel
His major league debut, he whiffs to end the inning. Cue Hell's Bells.
2:33 p.m. 2 Out
Nunez vs. Kendall
Bonifacio takes it wide of third, but throws him out.
2:30 p.m. 1 Out
Leo Nunez vs. Duffy
Hoffman is getting ready in the pen. A bouncer to right, and Cantu bobbles but recovers to retire Duffy.
Top 8th
2:27 p.m. 3 Out
DiFelice vs. Ramirez
Bouncer to the hole and Hardy makes a great throw to end a 1-2-3 inning.
2:25 p.m. 2 Out
DiFelice vs. Coghlan
Duffy takes it easily in right-center.
2:22 p.m. 1 Out
Mark DiFelice vs. Bonifacio
DiFelice for Bushie, and Jason Kendall in at catcher. A bouncer right back to DiFelice ends that at-bat. Great play by DiFelice.
Bottom 7th
2:20 p.m. 3 Out
Meyer vs. Hall
A pop-up to Baker to end a 1-2-3 inning.
2:17 p.m. 2 Out
Meyer vs. Cameron
A swingandamiss strike three from the lefty. I think the shade has now reached half the mound, so it's not easy for any batter. But that's good for Milwaukee, because a comeback is much harder.
2:15 p.m. 1 Out
Dan Meyer vs. Fielder
I guess strike three called isn't exclusive to Florida batters. That's what Fielder does.
Top 7th
2:11 p.m. 3 Out
Bush vs. Hermida (PH for Badenhop)
Bushie is, so far, really dealing. STRIKE THREE CALLED AGAIN!
2:09 p.m. 2 Out
Bush vs. Amezaga
Corey yells "Strike Three Called!" 6th K for Bushie.
2:08 p.m. 1 Out
Bush vs. Gload
The home run power of Gload is about 330 feet to left, where Braun takes it.
Bottom 6th
2:06 p.m. 3 Out
Badenhop vs. Braun
The slumping superstar flies out to center.
2:04 p.m. 2 Out, Runners on 1st and 2nd
Milwaukee 5, Florida 3
Badenhop vs. Hardy
Hardy now has to face the hard ball to see when the shadows come across, but he smashes one to left and Duffy scores.
2:01 p.m. 2 Out
Badenhop vs. Weeks
Ueck says he wants to go ice fishing with a duplex with a furnace surrounding him. Ah, gotta love off-the-topic stuff from the master!
Rickie takes strike three called as the shadows come across the plate. A one-run lead becomes much safer.
2:00 p.m. 1 Out, Runners on 1st and 2nd
Badenhop vs. Bush
A foul bunt with two strikes means a third strike. Ueck is now working on a Minnesota accent live on the air.
1:57 p.m. Runners on 1st and 2nd
Badenhop vs. Rivera
Uecker estimates 34,000-36,000 today at Miller Park. They see Rivera bounce one past the hole between 3rd and short.
1:54 p.m. Runner on 1st
Badenhop vs. Duffy
Duffy bounces to Uggla, who runs away from 1st and throws the other direction. Errant, and Duffy gets to 1st.
Top 6th
1:52 p.m. 3 Out
Bush vs. Uggla
Cameron slides to right center to end a ho-hum inning, while the sausage racers do their thing.
1:51 p.m. 2 Out, Runner on 1st
Bush vs. Baker
Batters are now standing in shadows as Baker comes up, and he sends a drive to left-center, but Braun sprints in and gathers it.
1:50 p.m. 1 Out, Runner on 1st
Bush vs. Cantu
A smash past a leaping Hall gets Cantu on base.
1:49 p.m. 1 Out
Bush vs. Ramirez
A first-pitch bouncer to short nearly handcuffs Hardy, but he kept his composure and got Ramirez.
Bottom 5th
1:47 p.m. 3 Out
Badenhop vs. Hall
A hard bouncer to 3rd, but Bonifacio is there to gobble it up and get the force.
1:46 p.m. 2 Out, Runner on 1st
Badenhop vs. Cameron
Cammy lines a base hit to left-center and the rally continues.
1:43 p.m. 2 Out
Milwaukee 4, Florida 3
Badenhop vs. Fielder
The shadows start to drag across right field as Fielder steps in. A bomb to left center....GONE!
1:41 p.m. 2 Out
Badenhop vs. Braun
A looper goes right to Amezaga in center field. I thought that would drop.
1:38 p.m. 1 Out
Burke Badenhop vs. Hardy
A pitching change after Johnson gives up three runs and five walks in a not-so-Johnson-like game for Florida.
Hardy nearly jacked one down the left field line, but it went foul.
Strike three called after a pitch that crossed the plate at Hardy's ankles. Huh?
Top 5th
1:34 p.m. 3 Out
Bush vs. Coghlan
A liner to right sends Bonifacio to the plate and a relay from 2nd is PERFECT!
1:33 p.m. 2 Out, Runner on 1st
Bush vs. Bonifacio
The 3rd at bat for the top of the order: he golfs one that becomes a one-bouncer in front of Cameron in right-center.
1:32 p.m. 2 Out
Bush vs. Johnson
Bushie's 5th K is a delivery right by Johnson's knees.
1:31 p.m. 1 Out
Bush vs. Amezaga
An easy pop-up to Fielder ends that at-bat while Ueck pitches Usingers.
1:30 p.m.
Florida 3, Milwaukee 3
Bush vs. Gload
Chris Duffy just turned around and watched a home run fly past him.
Bottom 4th
1:26 p.m. 3 Out
Johnson vs. Weeks
I love how the house DJ plays "You've Had a Bad Day" as the pitching coach comes out.
Then, a slapper right to Cantu at 1st. Oh well.
1:24 p.m. 2 Out, Runners on 1st and 2nd
Johnson vs. Bush
He's had some success at the plate this year, and Bush draws a 2-out walk for Johnson's 5th walk of the year. He actually had SIX walks entering today, not the seven I first said. That makes this even more shocking.
1:22 p.m. 2 Out, Runner on 1st
Johnson vs. Rivera
A ground ball right where they ain't - right past the 2nd base for a single. Pitcher won't start the 5th. We like that.
1:20 p.m. 2 Out
Johnson vs. Duffy
A swinging K makes it seem like we've got a 1-2-3.
1:18 p.m 1 Out
Johnson vs. Hall
The home run hero of the 2nd inning and Hall sends a soft-liner to Ramirez at short.
Top 4th
1:15 p.m. 3 Out
Bush vs. Uggla
Shot to CF for Cammy and it's routine, except for that boo-boo by Weeks.
1:15 p.m. 2 Out
Bush vs. Baker
A pop-up to Hall at 3rd. Easy out.
1:11 p.m. 1 Out
Milwaukee 3, Florida 2
Bush vs. Cantu
Cantu is playing through a sore wrist, and he uses them to bomb a ball 370 feet back to Duffy in right-center. Ramirez tagged to 3rd, and the relay was bobbled by Weeks in right-center. Ramirez goes home.
1:08 p.m. Runner on 2nd
Bush vs. Ramirez
It's the 3-4-5 hitters for Bush now. A liner splits Braun and Cameron and goes to the 370 sign in left center. Ramirez is raking.
Hang on a second: where did the term "raking" come from? E-mail me if you know.
Bottom 3rd
1:06 p.m. 3 Out
Johnson vs. Cameron
The 5-3 double play Bonifacio tried to pull off earlier in the inning actually happens this time. Too late, though.
1:04 p.m. 1 Out, Runners on 1st and 2nd
Johnson vs. Fielder
The third walk of the inning happens on a 3-2 count.
1:02 p.m. 1 Out, Runner on 2nd
Milwaukee 3, Florida 1
Johnson vs. Braun
A chopper to 3rd where Bonifacio get the out, but the throw goes past 1st, and Hardy goes from 1st to home.
12:59 p.m. Runners on 1st and 2nd
Johnson vs. Hardy
A rare day where Johnson is having trouble missing the plate. Seven straight balls to start the inning for a pitcher with 43 K's and 7 BB's this year (before starting today).
Make that ball eight. (The ball all the way to the backstop.) What is this, Wild Thing from Major League?
12:57 p.m. Runner on 1st
Johnson vs. Weeks
Brewers' top of the order gets a walk on four straight pitches. His second walk today.
Top 3rd
12:54 p.m. 3 Out
Bush vs. Coghlan
A routine fly to center ends the inning. Ho-hum.
12:53 p.m. 2 Out
Bush vs. Bonifacio
Top of the order back for Florida, and an off-speed pitch gets popped-up to Braun.
12:51 p.m. 1 Out
Bush vs. Johnson
Cory Provus takes over on the 620WTMJ mike as the pitchers go head to head in the batter-pitcher matchup, and a strike 3 called brings Bush his 4th K of the day.
Bottom 2nd
12:49 p.m. 3 Out
Johnson vs. Bush
Striking out swinging, but he's got a lead to protect now.
12:48 p.m. 2 Out
Johnson vs. Rivera
A 340-foot fly ball gets to Amezaga's right-center field spot.
12:46 p.m. 1 Out
Johnson vs. Duffy
An easy grounder to 3rd ends his first trip up, but the crowd is still buzzing over the Hall homer.
12:44 p.m.
Milwaukee 2, Florida 1
Johnson vs. Hall
Jorge Cantu can't do. The first baseman missed a pop-up right by the dugout.
What the heck is a guy doing at a Brewers-Marlins game wearing a Cubs pullover? Worse, he's right in the first row.
Finally, Hall cranks a bomb that ties the game.
12:42 p.m. Runner on 1st
Johnson vs. Cameron
Cammy smashes one right past Dan Uggla on 2nd for a base hit.
Top 2nd
12:38 p.m. 3 Out
Florida 1, Milwaukee 0
Bush vs. Amezaga
A wild pitch by Bush snds Uggla home. The ball bounced badly off Rivera's chest protector. Then, Bush ended the inning with a K.
12:35 p.m. 2 Out, Runner on 3rd
Bush vs. Gload
A 385-foot fly ball gets to Cameron's glove in the shade in center, but Uggla gets to 3rd base.
12:34 p.m. 1 Out, Runner on 2nd
Bush vs. Uggla
A deep shot driven to left and it bounces off the Dodgers/Phillies score sign in left, and Uggla goes to 2nd easily for his second hit of the series.
12:32 p.m. 1 Out
Bush vs. Baker
Fielder makes a great diving stab of a fast grounder and tosses to Bush, who gives a point to thank the big guy for a great defensive job.
Bottom 1st
12:29 p.m. 3 Out
Johnson vs. Fielder
Big man vs. big man. Don't know if Johnson is a vegetarian, though. A soft fly ball drops to Dan Uggla in shallow right field, ending the threat.
12:26 p.m. 2 Out, Runner on 2nd
Johnson vs. Braun
A swinging K for a slumping Braun.
12:24 p.m. 1 Out, Runner on 2nd
Johnson vs. Hardy
A fly ball heads to right center and Ramirez, who's arm is enough for Weeks to respect and not attempt to go to 3rd.
12:22 p.m. Runner on 2nd
Johnson vs. Hardy
The previous walk was only Johnson's 8th all year vs. 43 K's, so we know Johnson has darn good stuff. An inside pitch ties up the catcher, Baker, to give him a stolen base.
12:19 p.m. Runner on 1st
Josh Johnson vs. Weeks
On a full count, the 6-7, 252 lb. Johnson throws a ball to Weeks.
Top 1st
12:13 p.m. 3 Out
Bush vs. Cantu
Jorge (not former WTMJ'er Richard Cantu) gets handcuffed on a beautiful off-speed pitch for Bush's 2nd K.
12:13 p.m. 2 Out, Runner on 2nd
Bush vs. Ramirez
A 3-2 pitch ties up Ramirez who put a hard cut on it, but got nothing.
12:10 p.m. 1 Out, Runner on 2nd
Bush vs. Ramirez
A throw by Rivera on the steal attempt goes over the head of the 2nd baseman, but Cameron's on top of it to hold the damage.
12:08 p.m. 1 Out, Runner on 1st
Bush vs. Coghlan
A low and outside pitch puts Coghlan on, a bad idea when Hanley Ramirez comes up.
12:06 p.m. 1 Out
Bush vs. Bonifacio
Chris Duffy trots five steps and takes a hard liner in center.
Pregame
11:42 p.m.
The Brewers look not only for a sweep, but sole possession of first place in the NL Central with a win over the Marlins today.
Two undefeated pitchers go at it ioday: Florida's Josh Johnson (3-0) vs. Milwaukee's Dave Bush (1-0).
Mat (yes, with one T) Gamel has arrived with the big club, and manager Ken Macha says he plans to use him in pinch-hit situations, maybe give him a start.
Mike Rivera also returns to the lineup, after 15 straight games by Jason Kendall at catcher.
It is picturesque for a day in May, with temperatures around 60' and nothing but sunny skies above an open-domed Miller Park.
