Brewers Pick 5 Players in Rule 5 Draft

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The Brewers selected five players Thursday in the Rule 5 Draft at the winter meetings in Las Vegas.

The draft helps keep organizations from stockpiling young players on their minor league teams.

Milwaukee chose right-handed reliever Eduardo Morlan with the 16th overall pick. Morlan went 4-2 with a 3.64 ERA and one save in 30 relief appearances in Double-A last season.

The Brewers must keep Morlan on the active, major league roster all season or offer him back to Tampa Bay.

The Brewers also picked right-hander Mark Holliman, second baseman Jonathan Ash, infielder Shane Justis and infielder Juan Sanchez in the Triple-A phase of the draft.

Milwaukee lost catcher Lou Palmisano, right-handed pitcher Patrick Ryan and shortstop Guilder Rodriguez.
