Sabathia has been named the winner of the 2008 Warren Spahn Award as the best left-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball. This is the second straight Spahn Award for Sabathia, who went 17-10 with a career best 2.70 ERA for Cleveland and Milwaukee last season. Sabathia was traded by the Indians in midseason to Milwaukee where he went 11-2 to lead the Brewers to the National League playoffs. He's currently a free agent. The award is named baseball Hall-of-Famer and longtime Oklahoma resident Warren Spahn whose 363 career wins is the record for a left-hander. Sabathia says he plans to be in Oklahoma City to accept the award from the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame Museum in January. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
