Mbakwe Leaves Marquette
The Marquette men's basketball squad is losing a young inside player with a potentially bright future after sophomore forward Trevor Mbakwe chose not to return to school.
A press release from Marquette University states he chose to leave the Marquette program due to personal reasons. He let a member of Marquette's coaching staff know about his decision on Friday afternoon. "I was shocked by the news and obviously caught off guard, having initially heard through one of my assistants his intent on Friday night and then having it confirmed over the last 36 hours," said head coach Buzz Williams in a statement. "He had a great summer in workouts and did well academically. Having said that, we want people here who are completely committed to being part of our program, our institution and our family. We all wish Trevor the best of luck." Mbakwe suffered a knee injury in the 2007-08 preseason. He returned late in the season to play 11 games, and averaged 1.5 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. |
