Former Nicolet Star Primed for Big Splash
Weber-Gale Hopes Omaha Success Just a Springboard for Beijing
By Rick Rietbrock
Four years ago, he just missed the Athens Games. In the Olympic swimming trials early in July, a local swimmer made sure that wasn't going to happen again. Garrett Weber-Gale is a man on a mission. "It feels incredible," says Garrett Weber-Gale. "I had a really good week, my confidence is high. Mentally I'm really strong, I'm focused, I'm not letting myself get frazzled by the little things." The kid from Nicolet is really doing big things like setting an american record in the 100 meter freestyle and winning the finals and taking the 50 freestyle. "I was more excited for the fifty than i have been, it's just a drag race, you don't even get tired so how couldn't it be awesome," says Weber-Gale. Weber-Gale will represent the U.S. As the guy to beat in the 50-, 100- and 400-meter relay. Not bad for a week's work. "It was really stressful for me and coming here doing what I wanted to do and it's a big weight off my shoulders getting it done," he says. "I just want to take a couple days off and get ready for Beijing. I know i'm going to be ready for Beijing."
