WNIT: Marquette 58, Butler 49
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Lauren Thomas-Johnson and Krystal Ellis scored 11 points each to lead Marquette to a 58-49 victory over Butler Monday night in a second-round game of the Women's National Invitation Tournament.
Marquette (17-15) advances to a third-round game Thursday against the winner of Tuesday's game between Louisiana Tech (21-12) and Illinois State (24-7).
The Golden Eagles led 22-18 at halftime and then shot just under 48 percent from the field in the second half while holding Butler to under 35 percent shooting.
Terra Burns had 13 points to lead Butler (20-12). Susan Lester added 12 and Melanie Thornton had 10.
Jessica Pachko and Marissa Thrower added 10 points each for Marquette.
Pachko had 9 rebounds and Georgie Jones had 8, as the Golden Eagles outrebounded Butler 43-29.
