Yovani Gallardo. | Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Brewers Sign Yovani GallardoBy By Jay SorgiThe Milwaukee Brewers have officially signed their expected number one starter to a contract for this season. The Brewers have inked a one-year deal with right-hander Yovani Gallardo. In 24 games over two years as a Brewer, Gallardo has a 9-5 record with a 3.35 ERA. He pitched in only four regular season games in 2008 after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. Gallardo pitched on Sept. 25th against Pittsburgh during the Brewers' final-week push to a wildcard berth, but lost game 1 of the NLCS to the eventual champion Philadelphia Phillies after giving up three unearned runs in a four-inning start. Brewers manager Ken Macha has said he would likely try to spare Gallardo the pressure of being a No. 1 starter by starting another pitcher on opening day.
