On the factors weighing on Favre's decision to retire: "I wasn't surprise because of the way the Jets' season ended, and the way that Brett Favre performed down the stretch. It seemed like the New York media had kind of soured on him, and more importantly, some teammates were questioning whether it was the right fit. "I think he got the vibe that this wasn't going to be a glorious ending and it was time to go." On whether Favre really means it this time when he says he's done: "We've seen him change his mind before, and I know that's what everyone's going to say, 'What's going to happen in a couple of months? What about when training camp gets closer? Is he going to get the itch again and somehow try to maneuver his way to Minnesota?'
On the details of the ESPN report that Favre's agent, James "Bus" Cook, went to the Jets and had an informal discussion about an unconditional release so he could play for another team, such as the Vikings, a request the Jets denied: "If indeed that report is true...that's so shortsighted by Brett Favre that he would hinge his decision on whether he can be with a team that's going to play the Packers twice. That's so vindictive and small-minded about the reason he really should be playing. Maybe he's saying, 'The Vikings are a much better team than the Jets and the only missing piece is a quarterback.' That might be what he would spin it as."
