Marquette's Hayward One Point from 1,000
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- With the next point he scores, junior Lazar Hayward will become Marquette's 41st player to score 1,000 points.
That will make Marquette and North Carolina the only teams with four active players to have surpassed that mark.
Marquette takes on Georgetown on Saturday. Coaches from both staffs will be wearing sneakers with their suits as part of Coaches vs. Cancer, an cancer-awareness event.
At 18-2, Marquette is off to its best start since it started 22-2 in 1977-78.
Marquette is riding a 10-game winning streak, its longest in six years. The Golden Eagles are 7-0 in the Big East, making them one of 15 Division I teams that are currently undefeated in league play.
