New Brewers' Starting Pitcher Unlikely

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The projected payroll for the Milwaukee Brewers this year is already at the level of a year ago.

That makes it unlikely the Brewers would acquire a starting pitcher before spring training.

Owner Mark Attanasio says he wants to be in a flexible position on payroll, should something negative happen.

The Brewers started the 2008 season with a payroll just above $80 million. By the end of the season they were at $90 million.
