Brewers, L.A. Fight for Hoffman

By By Jay Sorgi

The Brewers and all-time saves leader Trevor Hoffman could agree to a deal today.

TODAY'S TMJ4's Lance Allan says Brewers general manager Doug Melvin are considering a two-year deal which the longtime San Diego Padre would prefer, or a one-year deal with an option for a second, which is the team's desire.

But there could be some close competition coming from Hoffman's backyard.

620WTMJ "Brewers 360" contributor and Journal Sentinel Brewers beat writer Tom Haudricourt reports that Hoffman's agent, Rick Thurman, is negotiating a deal with Los Angeles for one year and a second option year.

Hoffman earned $7.5 million in 2008, and converted 30 of 34 save opportunities for the Padres. He has 554 career saves, the all-time MLB record.
