Report: Nolan Likely GB D-Coordinator

By By Jay Sorgi

A published report says the former head coach of the San Francisco 49ers has become the front-runner to become the Green Bay Packers' defensive coordinator.

Two NFL sources tell the Green Bay Press-Gazette that Packers coach Mike McCarthy has Nolan tabbed to be his choice for the job.

Nolan was fired as the 49ers head coach after the first seven games of the 2008 season, but he has been a defensive coordinator in the NFL for 11 years.

McCarthy and Nolan have a relationship from when he worked for Nolan as the team's offensive coordinator.

Four of those squads were ranked in the NFL's top 10 in yards allowed.

Winston Moss, the current Packers linebackers coach and the only member of the defensive coaching staff retained for 2009, is also a potential candidate for the job.
