Breast Cancer Walk Targets Minority Women
Effort by black breast cancer survivors to educate local women

MILWAUKEE - A local group of black women who are breast cancer survivors will be out on Milwaukee's north side tomorrow. The group, Sister-4-Cure, and it's supporters and friends are holding their fouth annual Gift for Life Block Walk.
This year's walk will take off from the MLK Center near 15th and Vliet. Sisters-4-Cure Founder Phyllis Holder says they will go knock on doors and try to spread a message of education and awareness. "We provide healthy lifestyle and breast health materials and invite people back to, uh, the Martin Luther King Center for a celebration of life and more education."
Holder says the women they meet while going door-to-door are typically happy to see the volunteers and survivors. "It makes them open up and become aware of the fact that there is a group of African American women who are concerned about them."
She says the people they meet are not used to the extra attention because the areas Sisters-4-Cure selects for its block walk are typically made up of people who are underserved and underinsured.
The event runs from 10am-3pm tomorrow. The group leaves from the MLK Center at 1531 W. Vliet St. in Milwaukee. For more information on the Gift for Life Block Walk: CLOCK HERE.
