Memmel's Perseverence is Rewarded
By Rick Rietbrock
After 4 years of big highs and extreme lows, Chellsie Memmel is allowed to be emotional acheiving her Olympic dream. "I couldn't hold it in," says Memmel. "I broke down like four times at the selections on Sunday." Andy memmel says "As a parent, I've never been so happy to hear my daughter's name get called," says Chellsie's dad Andy. "Her dream is fulfilled." "It was very emotional for all of us, but now she has to focus because she's got big goals for the olympics," says Chellsie's mom Jeanelle. Coming back from injuries became a family affair, with the reminder of her 2005 world championship tattooed on her foot. "That competition was so important to me, I use the tattoo to inspire me when I get tired or down," says Chellsie. If you think Chellsie is most worried about her routine, think again. She's trying to get ready to go to China. All the toiletries, it's not really a space issue, it's more of a weight issue," says Memmel. "And I have a lot of new hair products, and I don't want to be worrying about my hair over there, so I just stressed out a little bit." Getting to Beijing, sounds like it's tougher than the competition.
