BEIJING – Journal Sentinel columnist Gary D’Amato is in Beijing for the Olympic Games.
He saw Arrowhead grad Ben Askren wrestle Tuesday night. Askren predicted gold, but lost his second match. Then, he broke down, crying.
“I’ve never seen an athlete quite that devastated. I mean, he was sobbing, and it was really hard to watch,” D’Amato said. “He was crushed, and that’s the only word I can think of, is crushed. It was like a ton of bricks landed on him, and he said ‘I’m just not good enough, not good enough for these guys.’”
