Jake's Journal: Lindsay Tarpley
By Katie DeLong
MADISON – Lindsay Tarpley of Madison is going for gold with the U.S. women’s soccer team. She’s helped the team advance to the semi-finals. Tarpley is one of the mainstays of the women’s soccer team. Her role has changed since she helped the team win gold in Athens in 2004. “I’ve grown a lot. In Athens, I looked to the veterans for leadership and advice in a lot of aspects,” Tarpley said. There’s been a lot of change on the team, but Tarpley likes the chemistry of Team U.S.A. “I think there’s a great blend of youth and experience. The younger players look to the more experienced players and the experienced players look to the younger players,” Tarpley said. Tarpley knows the U.S. team has a bulls eye on its back. “There’s always pressure. If we can just focus on the things we can control, it’ll be great,” Tarpley said. Tarpley and the U.S. team play Japan in the semi-finals. That’s at 8:00 a.m. Monday, Milwaukee time. If they win, they go for the gold Thursday.
