Norovirus Outbreak in Jefferson County

  • Print

JEFFERSON COUNTY - At least 40 people in Jefferson County became sick with norovirus this week.

The Jefferson County Health Department says they first got a call on Monday, from an office where 13 workers became ill. The workers had all eaten lunch at the same restaurant Friday.

By Sunday, all of them were sick with nausea, vomiting, cramps and diarrhea.

The health department sent an investigator to the restaurant, and discovered a food handler had recently been ill with norovirus.

The restaurant has since been cleaned... and the health department says it no longer poses any threat to public health.

Jefferson County Health Director Gail Scott would not release the name of the restaurant or where in the county it is located.

Scott says the concern now is to avoid a secondary outbreak. She urges people to stay home if they're sick, and wash they're hand frequently.
