Union Members, County Supervisors Protest at O'Donnell Park Garage

MILWAUKEE- County Executive and candidate for governor, Scott Walker, is coming under fire by union members and four county supervisors. They are blaming what they call Walker’s lack of maintenance on county buildings for the concrete collapse that killed 15 year-old Jared Kellner in June.

When County Supervisor, Chris Larson was asked if there was any evidence that linked to the specific concrete slab he replied that that was what the investigation is calling for.

Larson said that Sheriff David Clarke and firms hired by Walker cannot be trusted to investigate the county’s role in the matter. Walker called the comments “despicable.”

“To make this tragedy a political issue is just wrong,” said Walker.

Walker cited a report by the county parks director that showed 600 thousand dollars worth of maintenance issues, and states that they were all fixed.

The County Auditor met with the parks department today. The auditor said he is still trying to obtain records that prove that the work needed for the O’Donnell parking structure was completed and it is too early to draw conclusions.

The supervisors will introduce a resolution next Thursday at the board meeting calling for the state to step in and investigate the O'Donnell Park collapse.
