Brief But Powerful Storm Hits Kenosha

  • Print

KENOSHA - A brief but powerful storm ripped through Kenosha Thursday morning, knocking down trees, and ripping cable, phone and electrical wires right off of people's homes.

We Energies crews were busy all over the city.

Just off of 88th Avenue near the airport, straight line winds knocked down at least five power poles.

Several poles were knocked down all over the city.

More than 3,000 people lost their power at the height of the storm, including busy mom Jamie Andrews. "I just had to take all my kids to my parents' house to take a shower and now I'm off to work, so I'm kind of inconvenienced," Andrews explained.

Downed power lines littered some streets, making driving in some areas pretty dangerous.

One man described to TODAY'S TMJ4 what it was like as many of those lines came down during the storm. "I looked out the window and I couldn't see out the window.  All I could see was sparks flying from the high tension pole there."

Also among the damage - a small airplane blown off its parking spot at the Kenosha airport.

It was a brief storm… that will take hours to clean up.
