Sheboygan Woman Travels To Help Injured Sister
MILWAUKEE - Katy Nytes is on a mission to save her sister's life.
Becca Lara-Ruiz, 31, and her 15-year-old daughter Carley were critically injured in a car crash near Monterey, Mexico last Sunday.
Carley was airlifted right away to a hospital in San Antonio, Texas. But Becca wasn't stable enough for the flight... and poor weather left her stranded in Mexico.
"I had the determination to get my sister back," said Katy. "And I told her yesterday, I will go to the ends of the earth. I will call everyone that I can. I will get you home no matter what."
But the situation soon became even more precarious. The family found out the hospital in Mexico was out of Becca's blood type. And no one at the U.S. Embassy could help transport her back to the states.
So Katy put up $8,000 of her own money to hire an air ambulance. Her sister arrived at the hospital in San Antonio Saturday.
Katy says her sister and her niece are facing weeks of medical treatment, but the family is grateful to have them back in the U.S., and hopefully, back in Wisconsin very soon.
