MILWAUKEE - A woman who tried to drown her two year-old son in a hotel bathtub in Glendale was charged with two felonies.

The Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office filed charges of attempted first degree intentional homicide and attempted disarming of a peace officer against Tiffany A. Jones.

According to a criminal complaint, Jones, 22, tried to drown her son, identified only as R.T., at the Baymont Inn (5485 N. Pt. Washington Rd.) on June 2.

While responding to the location, Glendale Police officers found Jones, wearing only a bra, running and screaming hysterically in traffic in the 5500 block of N. Port Washington Road.

When one of the officers stopped his squad car and ordered her to the ground, she "did not comply with orders and continued walking at [him] at a fast pace, yelling and waving her arms," eventually lunging "for his left hip area and attempting to disarm [him] by grabbing the grip of his pistol."

Witnesses said Jones screamed "I can't take it anymore! I don't want to live!" in the Baymont's lobby, then handed the dripping wet boy to a guest, before running outside.

Jones later told investigators that "she got into the bathtub with R.T. and held him under water until she believed he was dead," admitting that "she hesitated before doing this to R.T. because she knows it is not right to kill, but admits to holding her hand over R.T.'s mouth...to keep others from hearing him when he fought and screamed."

"She just snapped," the boy's grandmother Tracey said. "I want everyone to know that this wasn't malicious. In her mind, it was the right thing. She didn't think she had help anywhere else."

The boy was taken to Children's Hospital and is expected to be fine.  He remains in protective custody.
