MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A federal jury has convicted a New Berlin doctor of providing painkillers without a legitimate medical reason.

Fifty-five-year-old Roger Pellman was found guilty on 16 counts of dispensing fentanyl and morphine without a medical purpose.

Court records say Pellman provided large amounts of the painkillers to a nurse who worked for his clinics. Pellman owns the Center for Medical Imaging and Vein and Laser Skin Care Clinics.

The Journal Sentinel reports Pellman faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine when he's sentenced Sept. 17.
