MUKWONAGO - A wrong-way driver leads deputies on a deadly high speed chase in Waukesha County.  The crash happened early Saturday on I-43 east of Highway 83 in Mukwonago.

It all started when a deputy noticed Charlie Davel driving erratically near Highway 83 and Highway NN and tried to pull him over. The 19-year-old, from the Town of Genesee, refused to stop.

Davel then drove north in the southbound lanes of Interstate 43 at speeds of 100 miles per hour.

He also turned off the headlights on his 1998 Honda SUV.

Several other drivers had to take evasive action to avoid being struck.

About 2 miles east of Highway 83, he crashed into a tow truck that was working on another vehicle on the side of the freeway.

Davel was ejected. Deputies performed CPR until the Mukwonago Fire Department arrived and took him to Froedtert Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

I-43 southbound was closed for more than 4 hours. The crash is still under investigation by the Waukesha Sheriff's Department.
