Fight for Milwaukee's Best Burger

MILWAUKEE - The fight to decide Milwaukee's best burger starts tomorrow.

It's AJ Bombers vs. Sobelman's, and the Travel Channel will air it all.

Sobelman's owner Dave Sobelman says television producers started the process with a visit.

"Someone from the Food Network came to Milwaukee to interview me (and) passed on the idea of the show. I wanted to be on the show," said Sobelman on TODAY'S TMJ4 HD's "Live at Daybreak."

"I called (AJ Bombers owner) Joe Sorge. I figured with his skills on Twitter and everything else, we could get this done. He liked the idea."

Sorge started an online campaign.

"We actually asked to see if we could get the Travel Channel's attention, by using all the same people who actually built the restaurant, our customers, by tweeting about it, by putting it on Facebook, by creating videos, by creating fun signs," said Sorge.

"It actually worked pretty well."

Tapings happen with lunch tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. at AJ Bombers on the 1200 block of North Water Street and tomorrow. at 11:00 a.m., at Sobelman's at 1900 West St. Paul Avenue, both in Milwaukee.

Then, the official contest happens Saturday at Bar Louie on the 1100 block of North Water at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

"They've got a few judges," said Sorge. "Everybody's blindfolded. We bring out the burgers. They taste both and they make the decision right there."

Sobelman's created a set of surrender terms for AJ Bombers, but on "Live at Daybreak," they ripped up the paper containing the surrender.

Sorge also handed Sobelman an AJ Bombers t-shirt, which he declined to wear.
