Family of DJ Harper Moving
MILWAUKEE-- DJ Harper was rescued from a burning SUV on Milwaukee's south side in July. In the nine months since, he's had several surgeries and is working on getting better.
"The healing is going really good," DJ's dad Chris Harper said.
Protective clothing minimizes the scars from where he was burned. His hair hasn't grown back yet, but Chris shaves his head now in support of DJ. Best of all, he can move his fingers once again. But while DJ's injuries are healing, the family is dealing with another tragedy. Chris' wife left and moved to California, leaving him to raise their two children alone.
"As a single parent raising two kids, especially one that needs alot of care, like DJ, it's going to be a full time job,' Chris said.
That's why he made the tough decision to move the family back home to Tennessee.
"It was a hard decision to make. I didn't want to leave the people of Milwaukee, but that's the best decision for my family," Chris said.
He'll be closer to friends and family that can help with the kids.
"i really hate leaving, but like I said, as far as the support, that's what we need," Chris said.
They're moving the second week of May, and even though they'll be hundreds of miles away, Chris wants everyone here to know their generosity will never be forgotten.
"We wouldn't have made it through this if it wasn't for the people of Milwaukee," Chris said.
