West Bend Man Gets Bone Marrow Donor Match
WEST BEND - Todd Pruett was surrounded by family photos at his home Tuesday, but last week he got some news that was picture perfect.
"I was pretty excited about it," said Pruett.
It was back in August when doctors told him he was suffering from a rare blood disease and needed a bone marrow transplant.
"I said it is what is is and let's move on," he said.
After months of searching unsuccessfully for a match, members of his church at Our Savior's Lutheran in West Bend got together back in February to sign their names to the national registry in hopes of being his donor.
"To have the numbers that came through, the blood bank was just amazed," he said.
And now several weeks later he has a match. He doesn't know if it's from someone at the church. All he knows is he's flying to Seattle next week in preparation for a transplant that's so intensive he'll be there six months
"What would you rather do, be gone for six months or be told you only had six months. So I'll be okay with it," said wife Pattie Pruett.
His wife of 21-years is okay with it and so are his four sons who range from 20 to 13 years old .
And while there's no guarantee the procedure will work, Todd is grateful that so many are praying it will.
"We don't do enough to highlight the good things that are out there, the positive things," he said. "And that's about as positive as you can get as far as what they've done for me."
