Three Guys Try to Steal ATM
Jay Saunders
MILWAUKEE - Three men burst into a convenience store in an attempt to haul away an ATM. Their half-hearted plan didn't go so well.
The Citgo gas station's surveillance cameras were rolling when the would-be burglars showed up early Wednesday morning on 107th St., just south of Brown Deer Road.
They backed a stolen GMC Suburban through the store's front door. Glass went flying everywhere. The driver got out and first tried pulling on the ATM - except the machine was bolted to the floor.
The burglars seemed confused and lacking in a plan on how to get the ATM out of the store.
The second time, they used the SUV. They tie a rope around the machine and the Suburban's bumper; and the driver guns it. The machine doesn't budge.
One of the men gives the ATM one last tug and then gives up, chasing after his accomplices who are already leaving.
The store kept the ATM; it's pretty scratched up but still works. The owners have installed posts outside the front door making it impossible for anyone to back into the store.
The Suburban was recovered over the weekend a few blocks away in the 8700 block of N. Granville Road.
Police are still looking for the three suspects.
