GM Decisions Saves Dealership Jobs

SAUKVILLE - They're all revved up at the Ernie von Schledorn dealership in Saukville. Now that General Motors has given them the green light to sell Cadillac again, they're hoping lucrative days are ahead.

"It's going to be fantastic," said sales manager Rick Conti. "It's going to be great for our customers. It's going to be great for the brand that we represent."

For years, that brand was Cadillac. It was the marquee in the dealership's lineup. But last year --- as part of its bankruptcy restructuring --- General Motors tried to drop 2,000 dealerships from its sales network. But more than a thousand of those dealers appealed the decision, including the one in Saukville.

"Our owner Ernie von Schledorn immediately filed those arbitration papers and today it's great news because we were rewarded back with our franchise," said Conti.

Without Cadillac, this dealership was facing losing up to 30 percent of its business --- from out on the sales floor, to work in the service center. Layoffs were looming. But now Conti says jobs at this dealership have been saved and he intends to get Cadillac brands back in the showroom immediately.

"As fast as possible, as fast as possible...we'll literally truck them in here. We'll be ordering cars as soon as tomorrow."
