MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee County District Attorney's office has charged a man with driving drunk and causing the death of a woman in West Allis.

Joshua Lechmaier, 21, faces two felony counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, one of them involving a prohibited blood-alcohol concentration, for the crash which happened early Saturday morning near the corner of South Waukesha Road and West Oklahoma Avenue.

The crash killed Jennifer Sztukowski, 34, who was riding in the SUV Lechmaier was driving just after 2:00 a.m. that morning.

If convicted of both charges, he could face up to 50 years in prison.

According to a criminal complaint:

Lechmaier admitted that he had four beers that night and knew that he should have stayed home and not gone out that night with Sztukowski, whom he started dating a week and a half before the crash.

Officials say his blood-alcohol level was 0.16, twice the legal limit.

According to a witness who was driving west on Oklahoma Avenue near the SUV, Lechmaier was driving erratically and at about 90 miles per hour.

He then lost control and fishtailed across three lanes of traffic multiple times before leaving the road and flipping over.

The witness helped Lechmaier out of the SUV, but could not get Sztukowski out because she was pinned inside.

When West Allis fire crews arrived, she did not have a pulse and was not breathing. A rescue worker pronounced her dead at the scene.
